About headfirst helmets
Who is headfirst helmets?
headfirst is a Dutch design brand reinventing the bike helmet — built on one belief: the safest helmet is the one people actually want to wear. We combine award-winning design, patented innovation, and sustainable materials to make protection effortless and good-looking.
Where are the helmets made?
Every helmet is designed in Amsterdam together with APE Design Studio and produced by Strategic Sports Ltd — the world’s largest and most trusted helmet manufacturer. Each model is tested and certified to meet or exceed EU and US safety standards.
Where is headfirst located?
Headfirst is based in the Netherlands. Our design and brand teams work between Amsterdam and Haarlem, while our distribution center operates out of Gorinchem — right in the heart of the country, where every helmet begins its ride to you.
Echo Pro
What makes the Echo Pro special?
Echo Pro combines smart design with real protection. It features our patented SafeFit system, a motion-sensing brake light, and a multi-impact EPP core that keeps protecting after everyday knocks. Lightweight, durable, and designed to look as good as it feels.
What is it made from?
A tough ABS shell with 15% recycled content, a multi-impact EPP core, and straps made from 100% recycled PET. The magnetic buckle makes it quick and easy to clip with one hand, even when you’re on the move.
What activities is it certified for?
The Echo Pro is certified for cycling, skating, and e-scootering. It meets EN1078 (EU), CPSC (US) and ASTM (multi-impact) standards.
What sizes does it come in?
Two adaptive sizes cover almost every head:
- Small: 50–56 cm
- Large: 56–61.5 cm
Our SafeFit system automatically adjusts to your head shape for the perfect fit — no dials, no pressure points, no fuss.
What colors are available?
The Echo Pro comes in three matte finishes: Green, Beige, and Black. All minimalist. All stylish.
How do I measure my head?
Use a soft measuring tape 1 cm above your eyebrows around the widest part of your head. It should be snug, not tight.
If you’re between sizes (for example, 56–57 cm), choose based on your preference — smaller for a snug fit, larger for more room.
SafeFit
What is SafeFit?
SafeFit is our patented (pending) fit system that automatically adapts to your head shape. Just push the helmet on and it fits perfectly — no dials, no fiddling, no pressure points.
How does it work?
Inside the helmet, an adaptive inner frame flexes around your head for an even, secure fit. To take it off, simply press the two thumb-release buttons. Easy on, easy off.
Why is SafeFit safer than traditional systems?
Traditional dial systems sit on the outside of the helmet, where they can break or even press into the back of your head during an impact. SafeFit is fully integrated inside the shell. Protected, streamlined, and built to absorb shocks safely. It distributes pressure evenly and keeps the helmet stable, offering up to twice the rear-head protection of conventional systems. Unlike plastic dial systems that can loosen or create pressure spots, SafeFit distributes pressure evenly and keeps the helmet stable during impact.
Tests show up to twice the rear-head protection compared to conventional helmets.
Does SafeFit fit kids too?
Yes. SafeFit adapts to growing heads just as easily. One push and it adjusts instantly — meaning less time adjusting straps and more time riding safely.
Smart brake light
How does it work?
A motion sensor inside the helmet detects when you slow down and automatically triggers a bright red brake light. No buttons, no apps, no forgetting.
Is it visible in daylight?
Yes. The helmets light is bright enough to stay visible in daylight and city traffic.
How long does the battery last?
8 up to 10 hours on a single charge. It recharges in about 1 hour using a USB-C cable.
Is it waterproof?
Yes. Rain, mist, or fog — the light keeps working whatever the weather.
Durability & sustainability
What makes your helmets durable?
Our ABS outer shell is built for daily use, while the EPP core absorbs multiple small impacts without losing protection. That means fewer replacements, less waste, and more peace of mind.
Is it sustainable?
Yes. The helmet is made with a partially recycled ABS shell, recycled PET straps, and water-based paint. We design for long-term use, because sustainability should be part of the ride.
Shipping & payment
Where do you ship?
We currently ship across the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway. More regions will follow soon.
Are taxes and import duties included?
Yes. For European Union deliveries, all taxes and import duties are included in the shipping price — no hidden fees at checkout.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Klarna (where available). All payments are processed securely.
Returns & exchanges
What is your return policy?
We want you to love your helmet — but if it’s not the perfect fit, you can return it within 30 days of delivery. The helmet must be unused, in its original packaging, and with all tags and accessories included.
How do I start a return?
Simply email us at support@headfirsthelmets.com with your order number and reason for return. We’ll send you a return label and instructions. Once we receive and inspect your helmet, we’ll process your refund within 5–7 business days.
Are returns free?
We cover the return shipping if the product arrives damaged, defective, or if we made a mistake with your order. For other returns (like a change of mind or size), a small return fee may apply to cover shipping and handling.
Can I exchange for a different size or color?
Yes — as long as your helmet hasn’t been worn or damaged. Just mention the exchange details when you contact us, and we’ll reserve your new size or color while processing your return.
Why can’t I return a used helmet?
Safety first. Once a helmet has been worn or adjusted, we can’t guarantee it hasn’t been impacted or stressed. To keep every customer safe, only unused helmets can be accepted for return or exchange.

Crash replacement program
What is the crash replacement program?
It's designed to keep you protected after a fall. If your helmet takes a serious impact, it’s done its job — now it’s our turn. We’ll help you replace it at a reduced price so you can get back on the road safely.
How do I know if my helmet needs replacing?
After a fall, always inspect your helmet carefully. If the ABS outer shell shows any cracks, deep dents, or visible deformation, it’s time for a replacement — even if the damage seems minor.
Also check the edges and vent openings: if they’re split, bent, or the surface feels soft or uneven, the impact has likely affected the internal structure.
Our multi-impact EPP core can handle smaller knocks, but once the outer shell is compromised, protection is no longer guaranteed. When in doubt — replace it. Your head is worth more than the risk.
How does it work?
Register your helmet after purchase to activate your coverage. If you’re involved in an accident within two years, simply contact us with your proof of purchase, a short description, and photos of the damaged helmet.
Thanks to the Echo Pro’s multi-impact EPP core, the helmet can withstand smaller knocks without losing protection — but after a major crash, it’s always safest to replace it.
What discount do I receive?
You’ll get 40% off the retail price of a new helmet (same or comparable model).
Why should I replace my helmet after a crash?
Even though the multi-impact design protects against everyday bumps and minor hits, a heavy impact can compromise the internal structure. It might look fine on the outside, but unseen damage can reduce protection. Replacing it ensures your next ride is as safe as your first.
Care & Cleaning
How do I clean my helmet?
Wipe the outer shell with mild soap and water using a soft cloth. Remove the inner pads and hand-wash them in lukewarm water with gentle detergent. Let them air-dry completely before putting them back in. Avoid solvents, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners — they can damage the finish and weaken the materials.
Can I replace the inner padding?
Yes. All pads are removable and replaceable. Each Echo Pro comes with an extra thin rear pad for a slightly tighter fit when needed. The standard padding can also be swapped for our winter liner, which adds warmth without affecting the fit or ventilation — perfect for cold-weather rides.
How should I store my helmet?
Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources (like car dashboards or radiators). Extreme temperatures can distort the shell or reduce the foam’s protective performance.
Can I repaint or sticker my helmet?
You’ll get 40% off the retail price of a new helmet (same or comparable model).
How long will my helmet last?
With normal use and proper care, the Echo Pro should last up to 5 years. Replace it sooner if it experiences a major impact, shows visible cracks, or if the materials feel brittle or degraded.
Can I put the helmet in the dishwasher or washing machine?
Absolutely not. High heat and strong detergents can warp the shell, degrade the padding, and ruin the adhesives. Always clean it by hand.
Rotational impact
Does the Echo Pro include MIPS?
Not yet. The current Echo Pro is built around our patented SafeFit® system, which already improves stability and reduces rotational impact by keeping the helmet securely aligned on your head.
We’re currently in discussion with MIPS to integrate their technology directly into the Echo Pro lineup. If approved, the MIPS node may be added to this model in a future production update or ordered additionally, designed to work seamlessly with SafeFit without changing the helmet’s clean silhouette or comfort.
